RESUMO: A lagarta-do-cartucho, Spodoptera frugiperda (Lepdoptera: Noctuidae), é uma das principais pragas na cultura do milho e nos últimos anos vem desenvolvendo resistência a produtos químicos e à tecnologia Bt. Métodos alternativos de controle, como o emprego de óleos essenciais, são um passo importante na implementação de estratégias de manejo para essa praga. O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar a eficiência dos óleos essenciais de Corymbia citriodora, Myrciaria dubia (Myrtaceae), Lippia microphylla (Verbenaceae) e Piper umbelattum (Piperaceae) no controle de S. frugiperda. Os óleos essenciais foram extraídos e testes de mortalidade com aplicação tópica e de voláteis foram conduzidos com 30 lagartas de segundo instar provenientes de criação massal e em dieta artificial. Como testemunha, foram conduzidos testes com água destilada e acetona. Os óleos essenciais que proporcionaram taxas de mortalidade acima de 80% foram submetidos à análise química para identificação de seus constituintes. Entre os óleos essenciais, mostraram-se eficientes apenas os de C. citriodora e L. microphylla. Para o óleo essencial de C. citriodora, a DL80 foi de 7,06 ± 0,73 mg.g-1 em aplicação tópica e 5,85 ± 0,75 µL via aplicação do volátil. Já para o óleo essencial de L. microphylla, a DL80 foi de 9,95 ± 1,25 mg.g-1 em aplicação tópica e 18,56 ± 3,55 µL via aplicação do volátil. A análise química demonstrou que os principais constituintes foram citronelal para o óleo essencial de C. citriodora, e (E)-cariofileno e (E)-nerolidol para o de L. microphylla. Os óleos essenciais de C. citriodora e L. microphylla são promissores para o controle de S. frugiperda, com destaque para o efeito volátil do óleo de C. citriodora.

ABSTRACT: Fall armyworm, Spodoptera frugiperda (Smith) (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae) is one of the main pests in maize crop with developing resistance to chemical products and Bt technology. Therefore, alternative control methods such as essential oils are important steps in the implementation management strategies for this pest. This study aimed to evaluate the efficiency of essential oils (EOs) of Corymbia citriodora, Myrciaria dubia (Myrtaceae), Lippia microphylla (Verbenaceae) and Piper umbelattum (Piperaceae) in controlling S. frugiperda. The OEs were extracted and mortality tests were conducted with topic and volatile applications, in 30 second-instar caterpillars originated from insect rearing and artificial diet. As a control, we conducted tests with distilled water and acetone. EOs that provided mortality rates above 80% were submitted to chemical analysis for constituent identification. The efficient EOs were only those of C. citriodora and L. microphylla. For EO of C. citriodora, the LD80 was 7.06 ± 0.73 mg.g-1 in topical application and 5.85 ± 0.75 µL via volatile application. On the other hand, for EO of L. microphylla, DL80 was 9.95 ± 1.25 mg.g-1 in topical application and 18.56 ± 3.55 µL via volatile application. Chemical analysis showed that the main constituents were citronella for the EO of C. citriodora and (E)-caryophyllene and (E)-nerolidol to the EO of L. microphylla. EOs of C. citriodora and L. microphylla are promising for controlling S. frugiperda, with emphasis on the volatile effect of C. citriodora oil.

RESUMO O presente estudo teve como objetivo testar a hipótese de que os diferentes elementos da paisagem, como os corredores, fragmentos conectados e fragmentos não conectados, apresentam o componente arbóreo com composição florístico-estrutural diferentes entre si. Para isto, o componente arbóreo de um sistema de fragmentos e corredores florestais foi amostrado por meio de 70 parcelas permanentes de 10 × 20 m, totalizando 1,4 ha amostrado. Dentro das parcelas, foram identificados e quantificados os indivíduos arbóreos com circunferência a altura do peito (CAP) maior ou igual a 15,7 cm. As métricas da paisagem (área, distância do vizinho mais próximo e relação borda interior) foram extraídas de imagem LANDSAT, por meio do programa FRAGSTAT. A organização e a riqueza do componente arbóreo na paisagem foram avaliadas por meio do Escalonamento Multidimensional Não métrico (NMDS), da análise de variância multivariada não paramétrica (NPMANOVA), dos índices de dissimilaridade de Jaccard e Bray-Curtis, da rarefação, do diagrama de Venn e análise de espécies indicadoras. Foram identificados três fragmentos não conectados, dois conectados e dois corredores florestais. Neles, foram observadas 84 espécies arbóreas, pertencentes a 60 gêneros e 36 famílias. O elemento da paisagem floristicamente mais distinto foi o corredor. A hipótese de que os diferentes elementos da paisagem apresentam o componente arbóreo com composição florístico-estrutural diferentes entre si foi aceita, reforçando a ideia de que a organização espacial de fragmentos e corredores florestais são relevantes na organização da vegetação arbórea em uma escala de paisagem.

ABSTRACT This study aimed to test the hypothesis that different landscape elements, such as corridors, connected and non-connected forest fragments, have a tree component with floristic-structural differences. For this sake, the tree component of a fragment-corridor system was sampled by permanent plots (10 × 20 m), totaling an area of 1.4 ha. Within the plots, tree individuals with the circumference at breast height (cbh) greater than 15.7 cm, which botanical identities were determined in the field, were sampled and counted. The landscapes metrics (fragment size area, nearest neighbor distance and edge-interior relation) were extracted from a LANDSAT image, by FRAGSTAT software. The organization and richness of the tree component in the landscape were analyzed through Non-Metric Multidimensional Scaling (NMDS), non-parametric multivariate variance analysis (NPMANOVA), Jaccard and Bray-Curtis dissimilarities indices, rarefaction, Venn diagram and indicator species analysis. Three non-connected fragments, two connected fragments and two forest corridors were recognized. In these landscape elements, a total of 84 species, 60 genera and 36 botanical families were found. The most floristically distinctive landscape element was the corridor. The hypothesis that the different landscape elements have a tree component with floristic-structural differences was accepted, supporting the idea that the spatial organization of forest fragments and corridors is relevant for the organization of tree vegetation in a landscape scale.

RESUMO Maconellicoccus hirsutus (Hemiptera, Pseudococcidae), praga de inúmeras espécies, especialmente frutíferas, está se expandindo no continente sul-americano. Informações sobre sua dinâmica, inimigos naturais e práticas culturais são importantes para seu manejo. Nosso objetivo foi estudar as flutuações da população em M. hirsutus e seus inimigos naturais em um pomar de ata (Annona squamosa) em Roraima, Brasil. As árvores foram avaliadas mensalmente ao longo de um período de 12 meses e as taxas de infestação por M. hirsutus e parasitismo foram estimadas. A maior infestação ocorreu em agosto de 2014 e entre fevereiro e março de 2015. Hospedeiros alternativos foram infestados durante a entressafra da ata. Bicho-lixeiro e o parasitoide Anagyrus kamali (Hymenoptera, Encyrtidae) foram os inimigos naturais mais importantes. O parasitismo médio por A. kamali nos frutos foi de 50%, com maiores taxas nos períodos de maior infestação por M. hirsutus. A poda de frutificação reduziu as populações de M. hirsutus.

ABSTRACT Maconellicoccus hirsutus (Hemiptera, Pseudococcidae), a species of economic interest, especially for fruit plants, is expanding on the South American continent. Information about the population dynamics of this pest associated with control by natural enemies and cultural practices is fundamental for its management. Our objective was to study the population fluctuations in M. hirsutus and its natural enemies in a sugar-apple (Annona squamosa) orchard in Roraima, northern Brazil. Trees were evaluated monthly over a 12-month period. Infestation rates by M. hirsutus and its parasitism were also estimated for potential host plants around the study area. Highest infestation occurred in August and February-March. Alternative hosts were infested during the off-season, mainly fruit. Lacewings and the parasitoid Anagyrus kamali (Hymenoptera, Encyrtidae) were abundant natural enemies. Average parasitism by A. kamali in fruits was 50%, with highest rates in periods of greatest infestation by M. hirsutus. Fruitification pruning reduced M. hirsutus populations.

RESUMO O presente trabalho objetivou avaliar a contaminação biológica ao longo do tempo em uma comunidade arbórea em estágio sucessional avançado/tardio da Floresta Ombrófila Mista Montana, adjacente a um plantio de Pinus taeda L. em Lages - SC. Para isso, foram alocadas 25 parcelas de 20 x 20 m, distribuídas em cinco transeções de cinco parcelas cada, alocadas perpendiculares à borda de contato com o plantio de pinus. Em cada parcela foram mensurados (DAP ≥ 5 cm, medido a 1,30 m do solo), coletados e identificados todos os indivíduos arbóreos vivos. Quatro anos após o primeiro inventário, os mesmos indivíduos foram novamente inventariados, quantificando-se os indivíduos mortos, sobreviventes e adicionando os recrutas. Para os dois períodos foram calculados os descritores fitossociológicos, quantificados os indicadores de invasão para a comunidade como um todo e grupos ecológicos e calculadas as taxas demográficas. No primeiro ano foram amostradas 73 espécies e no segundo 74 espécies, dentro das quais, duas foram exóticas: Pinus taeda e Ligustrum lucidum W.T. Aiton. Ambas tiveram baixos valores dos indicadores de invasão para a comunidade nos dois anos, no entanto, com aumento da participação de Pinus taeda entre as espécies pioneiras ao longo do tempo. Os resultados das taxas demográficas sugerem que, para os diferentes grupos ecológicos, o processo de invasão encontra-se em fases distintas. Conclui-se que o grupo das espécies pioneiras foi o componente mais afetado pela invasão biológica, o que reforça a necessidade de análise, considerando os diferentes grupos ecológicos.

ABSTRACT The present study aimed to evaluate the biological contamination over time in a tree community of Montane Araucaria forest, in advanced successional stage, adjacent to a Pinus taeda L. plantation, in Lages, SC state. For this sake, a total of, 20 x 20m, 25 plots, distributed in five transects with five plots each, were allocated perpendicular to the edge in contact with the pinus plantation. In each plot, all living trees were measured (cbh ≥ 5 cm, measured at 1.30 m above soil level), collected and identified. Four years after the first inventory, the same individuals were re-inventoried, the dead individuals and survivor quantified and recruits added. For the two evaluated years, phytosociological descriptors were calculated, indicators of biological invasion quantified for all community as well as for ecological groups and the demographic rates determined. A total of 73 and 74 species were sampled in the first and second years, among of them two exotic species: Pinus taeda and Ligustrum lucidum W.T. Aiton. Both species showed low values of the invasion indicators, but with an increment in the participation of Pinus taeda among pioneer species over time. Results of demographic rates suggest that, for different ecological groups, the invasion process is in distinct stages. We conclude that the pioneer species was the most affected component by biological invasion, which reinforces the need for analysis considering the different ecological groups.

RESUMO O presente estudo teve como objetivos conhecer a organização da comunidade e a estruturação filogenética do componente arbóreo de um fragmento de Floresta Nebular em Urubici - SC. Para isso, foram alocadas 25 parcelas de 400 m2, nas quais foi medida a circunferência a altura do peito - CAP, e identificadas todas as árvores com CAP igual ou superior a 15,7 cm. Foram calculados o índice de diversidade de Shannon-Wiener e os descritores fitossociológicos. A síndrome de dispersão de propágulos e a distribuição espacial de cada espécie foram determinadas. A estruturação filogenética foi avaliada por meio dos valores de Mean pairwise distance (MPD) e de Net Relatedness Index (NRI), calculados a partir de uma árvore filogenética construída em função das espécies amostradas, de uma matriz de abundância das espécies por parcelas e 1.000 simulações de uma comunidade organizada filogeneticamente de forma aleatória. A estruturação espacial das métricas filogenéticas foi analisada por meio do Índice I de Moran. Foram amostrados 1.579 indivíduos, pertencentes a 33 espécies, sendo Myrtaceae a família de maior riqueza de espécies. O baixo valor de diversidade (2,43), associado à baixa riqueza na área, é esperado em Florestas Nebulares, cujo ambiente é tipicamente seletivo. A maior representação na floresta foi de Myrceugenia euosma (O.Berg) D.Legrand (VI = 24,51%). A síndrome de dispersão predominante foi a zoocoria (84,85%), seguida pela anemocoria (15,15%), e a distribuição espacial foi predominantemente agregada. A comunidade apresentou variação em relação à estruturação filogenética, sendo que, para a maioria das parcelas, o padrão não diferiu do modelo nulo de completa aleatoriedade.

ABSTRACT This study aimed to survey the community organization and the phylogenetic structure of tree species component in a nebular forest, in the municipality of Urubici, Santa Catarina state. A total of 25 plots (400 m2) were allocated, where all trees with circumference at breast height (cbh) equal or superior than 15.7 cm were measured (cbh) and identified. The Shannon index and phytosociological descriptors were determined. The dispersal syndromes of propagules were determined and the spatial distribution of each species was analyzed. The phylogenetic structure was evaluated by the values of 'Mean Pairwise Distance' (MPD) and Net Relatedness Index (NRI), determined through a phylogenetic tree built in function of the species sampled, an abundance matrix of species by plots and 1,000 simulations of a community with phylogenetic randomness organization. The spatial structure of the phylogenetic metrics was analyzed through I Moran Index. A total of 1,579 trees were sampled, belonging to 33 species, with Myrtaceae as the richest family. The low value of diversity (2.43), associated to low richness, is expected for nebular forest, where the environment is typically selective. The most representative species in the forest was Myrceugenia euosma (O.Berg) D.Legrand (VI = 24.51%). The predominant dispersal syndrome was zoochory (84.85%), followed by anemochory (15.15%); and the species showed predominantly a clustered spatial distribution. The community had variation in relation to the phylogenetic structure, with most plots showing no significant difference from the null model of complete randomness.

RESUMO O estudo objetivou inventariar o componente arbóreo regenerante em uma floresta no Planalto Sul de Santa Catarina e compará-lo ao componente adulto da mesma área. Foram alocadas 25 parcelas, onde os regenerantes e adultos foram identificados e quantificados. Foi calculado o Índice de Regeneração Natural Total (RNT) de cada espécie. Para verificar a similaridade entre os componentes, foi utilizada a Análise de Similaridade e o índice de Jaccard. Foram amostrados 503 regenerantes, pertencentes a 58 espécies e 29 famílias. Myrtaceae foi a família de maior riqueza (13). Leandra regnelli (Triana) Cogn., Myrcia splendens (Sw.) DC. e Miconia cinerascens Miq. apresentaram os maiores valores de RNT. Houve elevada dissimilaridade entre regenerantes e adultos, sendo que 37,5% das espécies do componente adulto não tiveram representantes na regeneração natural. Conclui-se que existe uma baixa capacidade regenerativa da maior parte das espécies, o que pode estar associado à presença de gado na área.

ABSTRACT This study aimed to inventory the tree regenerating component in a forest in Southern Plateau of Santa Catarina and compare it to the adult component of the same area. A total of 25 plots were allocated, where the regenerating and adults trees were identified and quantified. The Total Natural Regeneration Index (TNR) of each species was calculated. We used the analysis of similarities and the Jaccard index to verify the similarity between the components. A total of 503 regenerants belonging to 58 species and 29 families were sampled. Myrtaceae was the richest family (13). Leandra regnelli (Triana) Cogn., Myrcia splendens (Sw.) DC. and Miconia cinerascens Miq. showed the highest values of TNR. There was elevated dissimilarity between the regenerative and adult component, with 37.5% of the species adult component absent on natural regeneration. In conclusion, there is a low regenerative capacity of most species which may be associated with the presence of cattle in the area.

Este trabalho teve como proposta analisar as variações espaciais, florísticas e estruturais do componente arbóreo de um sistema de fragmentos de Floresta Ombrófila Mista no Planalto catarinense. Para isso, foram alocadas 50 parcelas de 200 m² (10 x 20 m) em quatro fragmentos, cujos indivíduos com diâmetro à altura do peito (DAP) > 5 cm foram identificados e medidos. Foi calculado o Índice de Valor de Importância e realizada a comparação florístico-estrutural entre os fragmentos, por meio de Análise de Variância Multivariada Não Paramétrica (NPMANOVA). Espécies indicadoras de cada fragmento foram determinadas por meio da Análise de Espécies Indicadoras (ISA). Foram identificadas 73 espécies, sendo a de maior valor de importância Araucaria angustifolia (Bert.) Kuntze. Houve diferença na estrutura do componente arbóreo dos fragmentos (p = 0,001), sendo possível identificar espécies indicadoras para os fragmentos 1, 2 e 3. Este estudo demonstrou que fragmentos próximos entre si podem apresentar variações florístico-estruturais, que devem ser consideradas na definição de estratégias de manejo e conservação florestal.

The goal of this study was to evaluate the spatial, floristic and structural variations of the tree component of a fragments system of Araucaria Forest in the uplands of the state of Santa Catarina, Brazil. For this sake, within four fragments, 50 parcels of 200 m² (10 x 20 m) were allocated; their individuals with diameter at breast height (DBH), measured at 1.30 m height, > 5 cm, were identified and measured. The Importance Value Index was determined and the floristic-structural comparison among fragments was analyzed, applying a non-parametric multivariate analysis of variance (NPMANOVA). Indicator species of each fragment was determined by Indicator Species Analysis (ISA). We found 73 species, being Araucaria angustifolia (Bert.) Kuntze the most important species. There was a difference in the tree component structure of the fragments (p = 0.001); it is possible to identify indicator species for fragments 1, 2 and 3. This study showed that fragments located close to each other may present floristic-structural variations, which should be considered during strategies definition for forest management and conservation.

RESUMO O estudo das relações entre a vegetação e os solos pode auxiliar na compreensão da estrutura de uma comunidade florestal, dando suporte à conservação da biodiversidade. Assim, o presente estudo teve como objetivo avaliar a existência da partição espacial da comunidade de espécies arbóreas em um fragmento de Floresta com Araucária, em função da drenagem do solo. Para este propósito, foi realizada a caracterização ambiental (drenagem do solo, propriedades físicas e químicas do solo, topografia, compactação dos solos, profundidade dos solos e cobertura do dossel) em 25 parcelas de 20x20 m, onde indivíduos de espécies arbóreas, com circunferência a altura do peito (CAP) maior ou igual a 15,7 cm, foram previamente contados, medidos e identificados. Os dados foram analisados por meio do teste de Mann-Withney, análise de variância multivariada não paramétrica (NPMANOVA), análise multivariada (NMDS) e análise de espécies indicadoras. Os locais foram classificados como bem e moderadamente drenados, com diferenças ambientais que determinaram a riqueza, a partição espacial da comunidade e a ocorrência de espécies indicadoras na pequena escala espacial considerada. Desta forma, conclui-se que, no fragmento florestal estudado, as variações espaciais na drenagem do solo foram determinantes na heterogeneidade da composição florística- estrutural observada.

ABSTRACT The relationship vegetation-soil can contribute to understand the forest structure, supporting biodiversity conservation. Thus, the aim of the present study was to verify the existence of spatial partition of the tree species community in an Araucaria forest fragment in function of soil drainage. For this sake, an environmental characterization (soil drainage, physical and chemical soil properties, topography, compression with circumference at breast height ≥15.7 cm were previously counted, measured and identified. The data were analysed by Mann-Withney test, non-parametric multivariate ANOVA (NPMANOVA), multivariate analysis (NMDS) and indicator species analysis. In this small spatial scale there were two drainage classes, corresponding to well and moderately-drained soils, with environmental differences that determined the richness, the spatial partition of the tree community and the occurrence of indicator species. Thus, we conclude that in the study forest fragment soil drainage spatial variations were determinant in the floristic-structural heterogeneity observed in tree community.

Este estudo objetivou avaliar a invasão por espécies arbóreas exóticas em dois fragmentos (F1 e F2) de Floresta Ombrófila Mista (FOM) em Lages, SC. Foram alocadas 25 parcelas por fragmento, distribuídas em cinco transeções de 20 x 100 m, perpendiculares às bordas e com distância de 100 m entre si, onde foram avaliados os indivíduos dos estratos adulto (DAP - diâmetro à altura do peito > 5 cm) e regenerante (DAP < 5 cm e altura >10 cm). Esses foram identificados e mensurados (circunferência e altura). Foi calculado, para as espécies de cada estrato e de cada fragmento, o Índice de Invasão Biológica (IIB). A relação entre o IIB e a distância da borda foi verificada por meio de regressões lineares simples. O agrupamento de espécies exóticas e nativas foi determinado por meio de correlações de Spearman e de dendrogramas. Foram amostrados 3.701 indivíduos distribuídos em 105 espécies, sendo cinco espécies invasoras. No F1 houve valores de IIB relativamente baixos (0,05 e 0,54), com Pinus taeda L., obtendo-se a maior participação na invasão, e esse esteve agrupado com espécies nativas pioneiras. Os IIB´s no F2 foram altos (0,61 e 1,96), principalmente pela elevada participação de Ligustrum lucidum W.T. Aiton., que ficou agrupado a espécies típicas da FOM. Não foi observada relação entre a distância da borda e a intensidade da invasão biológica. Os resultados indicaram que os fragmentos apresentaram diferentes padrões de invasão biológica, determinados pela natureza da matriz de entorno e pelas características ecológicas das espécies invasoras.

This study evaluated the invasion by exotic tree species in two Mixed Ombrophilous Forest (FOM) fragments (F1 and F2) in Lages, SC. A total of 25 plots were allocated in each fragment, distributed in five transects, 20x100 m, perpendicular to the edges and, at least, 100 m apart from each other, where the adult (dbh - diameter at breast height > 5 cm) and the regenerative (dbh < 5 cm and height > 10 cm) component individuals were evaluated. These were identified and measured (circumference and height). For each component and fragment, the biological invasion index (BII) was determined. The relation between BII and the distance from the edge was evaluated by simple linear regressions. The grouping among exotic and native species was analyzed through Spearman correlation and clusters. A total of 3,701 individuals distributed in 105 species were sampled, being five invasive species. In F1 a relative low value of BII (0.05 and 0.54) occurred, with Pinus taeda L. as the most expressive species in the invasion, and it was grouped with native pioneers species. The BII's in F2 were elevated (0.61 and 1.96), mainly due to the expressive participation of Ligustrum lucidum W.T. Aiton., grouped with typical species of FOM. No relation between the distance from the edges and the intensity of the invasion were observed. The results demonstrated that the fragments showed different biological invasion patterns that were determined by the nature of surrounding matrix and the ecological characteristics of the invasive species.

RESUMO Os conhecimentos florístico e estrutural da comunidade arbórea são fundamentais para subsidiar estratégias de restauração florestal. Neste sentido, foi realizado um levantamento fitossociológico em um fragmento florestal situado nas margens de um tributário do Rio Caeté em Alfredo Wagner, SC, objetivando: i) conhecer a estrutura e a florística da vegetação arbórea dessa floresta; ii) classificar as espécies encontradas em grupos ecológicos e iii) comparar a florística da área estudada com outros estudos realizados em Floresta Ombrófila Mista (FOM), Floresta Ombrófila Densa (FOD) e área de transição entre FOM-FOD de Santa Catarina. Nesse fragmento foram alocadas 10 parcelas de 400 m2 onde todos os indivíduos arbóreos que apresentaram Circunferência a Altura do Peito (CAP, medido a 1,30 m do solo) igual ou superior a 15,7 cm foram medidos, marcados e identificados. As espécies foram classificadas nos grupos sucessionais: pioneira, clímax exigente de luz ou clímax tolerante à sombra. Para a comparação florística com outros remanescentes, foi utilizada a Análise de Correspondência Retificada (DCA). A estrutura do componente arbóreo foi descrita pela densidade, frequência, dominância e Valor de Importância (VI). Os resultados demonstram elevada riqueza florística (98 espécies). Foi possível constatar espécies típicas de FOM, como Araucaria angustifolia (Bert.) Kuntze, e espécies características de FOD, como Byrsonima ligustrifolia A.Juss., confirmando a característica do fragmento estudado de pertencer a uma área de tensão ecológica, padrão confirmado na comparação da similaridade florística. As espécies com maior VI foram Psychotria vellosiana Benth., Alsophila setosa Kaulf. e Guatteria australis A.St.-Hil. Estas e outras espécies de alto VI, por suas consideráveis representatividades na área, são importantes na restauração de florestas ciliares degradadas na região. Os plantios deverão ser planejados obedecendo-se ao grupo sucessional das espécies, plantando-se as espécies pioneiras e clímax exigentes de luz em um primeiro momento (e.g. Psychotria vellosiana), seguidas, quando houver o sombreamento da área, das espécies clímax tolerantes à sombra (e.g. Alsophila setosa e Guatteria australis).

ABSTRACT The understanding of floristic and structure of tree communities is essential to subside the strategies of forest restoration. In this sense, a phyto-sociological survey was conducted in a forest fragment situated along a tributary of Caeté river, in Alfredo Wagner, state of Santa Catarina, in order to: i) know the structure of trees and flora in this forest, ii) classify the species found according to ecological groups and iii) compare the flora of the study area with other studies in Araucaria forest (FOM), Atlantic Rain Forest (FOD) and the transition area between FOM-FOD of Santa Catarina state. In this fragment, 10 plots of 400 m2 were allocated, where all individual trees with the circumference at breast height (CBH, measured at 1.30 m above the ground) greater than or equal to 15.7 cm were measured, marked and identified. The species were classified into the following succession groups: pioneer, climax light-demanding or climax shade-tolerant. The Rectified Correspondence Analysis (DCA) was used for the floristic comparison. The structure of the tree component was described by the density, frequency, dominance and importance value (VI). The results showed elevated species richness (98 species). It was found typical species of FOM, such as Araucaria angustifolia (Bert.) Kuntze, and species characteristics of FOD such as Byrsonima ligustrifolia A.Juss., confirming the study fragment as an area of ecological tension between FOM and FOD. The species with most elevated VI were Psychotria vellosiana Benth., Alsophila setosa Kaulf. and Guatteria australis A.St.- Hil. The species with elevated VI, for their considerable representation in the area, are important in the restoration of degraded riparian forests in the region. The species seedlings plantation should be planned observing the group successional of each species, planting pioneer and light-demanding climax species first (e.g. Psychotria vellosiana), followed by, after the shading of the area, shade-tolerant species (e.g. Alsophila setosa e Guatteria australis).

Este estudo teve como objetivo identificar as estratégias de dispersão de propágulos, a distribuição espacial e a estratificação vertical de espécies arbóreas em um fragmento de Floresta Ombrófila Mista em Lages, SC. Para amostragem da vegetação arbórea, foram alocadas 25 parcelas de 400 m² (20 m x 20 m) e todos os indivíduos arbóreos dentro das parcelas com diâmetro a altura do peito (DAP, medido a 1,30 m do solo) maior ou igual a 5 cm foram identificados e tiveram sua altura estimada. Para complementar a lista florística, foram feitos caminhamentos aleatórios no fragmento objetivando identificar espécies arbóreas não amostradas nas parcelas. As espécies foram classificadas segundo: i) a sua síndrome de dispersão em zoocórica, anemocórica ou autocórica; ii) o padrão de distribuição espacial dos indivíduos, considerando-se a distribuição aleatória, agregada e uniforme; iii) a posição no estrato vertical da floresta, como sendo dos estratos superior, intermediário ou inferior. Do total de 87 espécies amostradas, 80,5% foram classificadas como zoocóricas, 16,1% como anemocóricas e 3,4% como autocóricas. Verificou-se a predominância de espécies com distribuição espacial aleatória e pertencente ao estrato superior, com altura superior ou igual a 12,45 m. Os resultados indicam a importância da fauna silvestre para a manutenção do funcionamento ecológico do fragmento estudado, uma vez que a maior parte das espécies são zoocóricas. O conhecimento desses atributos das populações arbóreas pode subsidiar estratégias de conservação e manejo de fragmentos florestais na região, uma vez que permite conhecer melhor a ecologia das espécies.

This study aimed to identify the strategies of propagules dispersion, spatial distribution and vertical stratification of tree species in an Araucaria Forest in Lages, SC. For sampling of the tree component, 25, 20 x 20 m (400 m2), plots were allocated, where all living trees with diameter at breast height (dbh, measured at 1,30 m height) higher or equal to 5 cm had the botanical identity determined and the total height estimated. Tree species found outside the plots, through random walks in the fragment, were recorded in order to complement the floristic list. The species were classified according to: i) their dispersion syndrome in zoochory, anemochory and autochory; ii) spatial distribution patterns of individuals, considering the random, clustered and regular distributions; and iii) vertical position in forest, being categorized as upper, intermediary and lower stratum. The survey totaled 87 species, with the predominance of zoochoric, random distributed species, occupying the upper vertical stratum. The knowledge of these attributes of tree species populations may support the conservation and management strategies of forest fragments in the study region, since it allow a better understanding of species ecology.

RESUMO O presente estudo teve como objetivos caracterizar a estrutura fitossociológica de um fragmento de floresta secundária em Lages, SC, contextualizar a composição florística do componente arbóreo do fragmento em relação a outros remanescentes da região do Planalto Sul-Catarinense e avaliar a influência de variáveis geográficas e climáticas sobre os padrões observados. O levantamento da composição florística e estrutural da vegetação arbórea, do fragmento estudado, foi conduzido em 25 parcelas de 400 m2, onde todos os indivíduos arbóreos com DAP (diâmetro medido à altura do peito) ≥ 5 cm foram medidos e identificados. Para o estudo das relações florísticas entre o fragmento estudado e outros remanescentes da região foi utilizada a Árvore de Regressão Multivariada, que utilizou matrizes florísticas de espécies arbóreas de presença e ausência e de variáveis geográficas e climáticas de cada remanescente. Foram encontradas 87 espécies, distribuídas em 36 famílias botânicas. As espécies de maior valor de importância no fragmento estudado foram Araucaria angustifolia (Bertol.) Kuntze e Podocarpus lambertii Klotzsch. A distribuição diamétrica da comunidade demonstrou padrão próximo ao J invertido e as populações tiveram padrões de distribuição diferenciados. Foram descriminados três agrupamentos florísticos associados à sazonalidade térmica e à temperatura média anual. O presente fragmento esteve agrupado a outras áreas de sazonalidade térmica maior ou igual a 3,053oC.

ABSTRACT This study investigated the floristic composition and the tree community structure in a secondary Araucaria Forest fragment in the Southern Plateau Region of Santa Catarina state, Brazil, the floristic context of this fragment in relation to other areas of Araucaria Forest in the region and the influence of climatic and geographic variables on the clustering patterns observed. The phytosociological survey of tree vegetation was assessed through 25, 400 m2, plots, where all trees with DBH (diameter at breast height) ≥ 5 cm were measured and identified.The floristic relationship among remnants and the influence of climatic and geographic variables were analized through a Multivariate Regression Tree, using a presence-absence species matrix and a climatic-geographic variables matrix. In the study area, 87 species were found, distributed into 36 botanic families. The species with the highest importance value were Araucaria angustifolia (Bertol.) Kuntze and Podocarpus lambertii Klotzsch. While the distribution of individuals in diametric classes was similar to an inverted J shape for the community, the populations demonstrated different shapes of diametric distribution. In the region, three floristic clusters were discriminated, influenced mainly by temperature seasonality and annual mean temperature. The study site was grouped with together with other areas presenting temperature seasonality higher or equal to 3.053oC.
